This looks as if it has been lifted from a student's portfolio. No knowledge of Tewkesbury or how Tewkesbury works is displayed.
The street furniture is at a smaller scale than the road and buildings.
If both bus stops are occupied the road is totally blocked.
The caravans from Gander Lane will bock the corner.
The local youth will congregate here.

Having seen the disastrous plans to so call ‘enhance’ the Crescent and Bell areas in Church Street, I would be very interested to know who indeed came up with the plans! Whoever it was has clearly NO idea whatsoever of the tradition and heritage of our town. Indeed, it almost looks like a ‘paint by numbers’ picture for children to paint.
Apart from the ridiculous total amount of different materials used, the plans are totally flawed.
The area at the Bell will serve no purpose at all, the exit from Mill Street into Church Street will be more blind than at present in, and the imagined width of the road brings in to serious doubt the ability of HGV’s to pass one another. Yes, I know there is such a ban, but some do still require access as do buses.
The Crescent is a disgrace and total disaster! It will serve no purpose at all. TBC and Martyn Midgely bully us with traffic congestion and pollution in the town, but what will be the effect of traffic backing up in Gander Lane wishing to exit into Church Street? It is perfect at present, where there is enough room to filter left if vehicles are stopped to turn right. All that is being created here is a bottle neck actually CREATING congestion and pollution. The positioning of TWO bus stops, directly opposite one another in almost the narrowest part of the street amazes me! What will happen to the TRADITIONAL drop off/pick up point for visitors and tourists WHICH WE ARE TOLD TEWKESBURY IS FOR?!!!!
It is also interesting that, on various local news programmes, street furniture/road signs even road markings are being REMOVED to calm traffic, as this scheme is blatantly aimed at, although we are led to believe it’s for the pedestrian.
All that the proposed ‘enhancement’ will achieve, will be a nice little area for the local riff raff to hang out, kick balls, skate board and partake in other types of ‘entertainment’.
BOTH these areas can be aesthetically improved quite simply, at a lot less cost AND allow our heritage and tradition to be preserved, and NOT let go, as so many other parts of our assets have been in the past.
All that is needed is for someone with LOCAL knowledge with some THOUGHT for OUR town to sit in the Crescent and experience the daily happenings and look around at what we still [thank God!] have, rather than pick some idea of a pretty paved area in Gloucester or wherever and plonk it in a sensitive part of our town.
Sincerely yours,
Mr W Treen.
